THE Watpac Townsville 400 officially rolls into town today with the annual Transporter Parade through city streets.

The parade will feature 18 B-double trucks which will set off from Ingham Rd, at Webb Drive, from noon.

The parade route will see the transporters travel down Shaw Rd, Herveys Range Rd, Ross River Rd and Charters Towers Rd before finishing at Reid Park.

The multimillion-dollar Supercar transporters will kick off celebrations for the 10th year of racing in Townsville.

A group of Townsville children was given the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the transporter trucks going on parade yesterday.

Three-year-old Max Turner said he enjoyed climbing into one of the giant trucks.

Max said he was looking forward to seeing the race car track at the weekend.

Watpac northern area manager Bryan Clancy was looking forward to celebrating with locals and visitors.

"The 10-year milestone is not just our achievement, but the whole of Townsville and we want to celebrate with them … so we're looking forward to seeing everyone at the weekend," he said.

"We also have a brand new family zone on the weekend, the Lego Fun Zone. It's our big inclusion for kids at the weekend.

"The championships are the most competitive it's ever been, and the teams are really looking forward to being up here and racing."

Mr Clancy said tickets were selling fast with the action to start with practice on Friday before the racing action on Saturday and Sunday.

The Supercar drivers will be at The Strand tomorrow, offering fans the chance for a meet and greet and to get autographs and selfies with the stars of the sport.

The parade starts at noon and finishes at 1.30pm.
