The ice scourge has gripped Queensland.

The ice scourge has gripped Queensland.

POLICE say they have smashed an ice trafficking ring which used the heavy vehicle transport industry to move drugs in southwest Queensland.

Officers raided 40 properties in Roma this morning as part of an 18-month investigation.

Detective acting Superintendent Paul Hart said police would allege a sophisticated network of traffickers in the region had used the heavy vehicle transport industry which had provided a "means to move ice".

As part of the 18-month operation police have arrested 100 people and charged them with 800 offences in relation to the trafficking and supply of ice.

Supt Hart said a man, 37, was charged with trafficking with ice as well as 392 charges of supplying ice after his arrest today.

Earlier this year police seized ice, restricted weapons and arrested 39 people in drug raids after raids in St George, Roma and Miles.

Officers said there were three significant ice seizures, along with cannabis, restricted prescription drugs and restricted weapons.

An investigation by The Courier-Mail late last year exposed shocking problems linked to the ice scourge across the state, with a focus on rural communities.

In St George children as young as 10 were addicted to ice and ice-related crime had swamped local police.
