Scania commits to fossil fuel free transport

User Rating: / 0

The Sustainable Transport Forum opens today in Stockholm Sweden hosted by leading truck manufacturer, Scania. Speakers and panellists from international governments, cities, industry and academia will gather at the event to discuss and define solutions for sustainable transport.

Preeminent sustainability researcher, Professor Johan Rockstrom will lead the forum. Other speakers include former US, Vice President, Al Gore and former Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, Christiana Figueres.

Henrik Henriksson, Scania, President and CEO, said his company had decided to be an active leader in the shift towards sustainability in the road transport sector.

“It is only through continued collaboration that we can achieve real change,” he said.

“This is why we gather leaders and decision makers at the Sustainable Transport Forum. To come together to discuss how we can unite, simplify and, most importantly, speed up the pace of change.”

As a significant share of greenhouse gas emissions originate from the transport sector, the forum will look at what it will take to achieve a fossil-free commercial transport industry by 2050, the Paris agreement target.

“To make the shift happen, we need to keep challenging ourselves, our partners, our customers, their customers, policy-makers and academia. Scania wishes to be part of the solution and can substantially contribute to reaching the target,” Henriksson said.
