A TRUCK filled with gold bars rolled on the Stuart Highway yesterday.

Sergeant Macalistair McLean told the NT News the Chubb security truck was travelling north from a mine in Pine Creek when it came off the road 15km south of Adelaide River at 11am yesterday morning.

"We believe the truck swerved to the left off the road, which caused the 61-year-old male driver to over correct," Sgt McLean said.

"The sudden correction caused the truck to tip on its side and block the road."

Sgt McLean said police were informed by a passer-by and attended the scene to find the truck on its side and the driver and his female, 48-year-old passenger shaken, but uninjured.

"The highway was closed for about half an hour, as a tilt tray was required to stand the vehicle up and tow it to Darwin," Sgt McLean said.
