In a short time powder coating has become very popular with automotive enthusiasts, making such an impact on the aftermarket scene that corporate manufacturers of all vehicles are starting to supply stock parts that are powder coated as an option when buying a new truck, car or bike.
Powder coating is a fantastic way to make your truck look incredible on a budget. After following the technical advancements in this area at truck shows and online, The Chrome Shop now offers cutting edge processes to powder coat just about anything to the colour and texture of your choice. We saw some incredible work at the Mid-American Truck Show earlier this year, The Chrome Shop was amazed and inspired by how powder coating was evidently popular, not to mention when used right, looked amazing.
Powder coating is the best protection you can apply for corrosion and chip protection. The polyester finish is very tough and durable (10 times more durable than spray paint). Powder coated finishes are resistant to chemicals such as fuels and brake fluids. Coated parts are heat resistant up to 176 degrees and will not fade or deteriorate under UV light. When applied properly, these finishes are flexible enough to dent without chipping.
We tested out a few pieces including a 13” sun visor, a rear light bar, a few of our hood ornaments and all sorts of brackets, with each piece coming back flawless. All were in different gloss types (low, semi, semi-high and high gloss) and textures (wrinkled, rippled and hammer-high). The fuel tanks we had coated were the most surprising. They were rusted, scratched, out of order and ready for scrap. We couldn’t believe they were the same tanks as these came up a real treat (and was cheaper than getting them polished).
As every truck show passes, we will be seeing a lot more of this technique applied to Australian trucks. It’s quick, easy, inexpensive and practical for Australian conditions.
The Chrome Shop now supplies a number of powder coated items including rear light bars, sun visors, hood ornaments (horse, bugler and the duck) or we can do custom coating work.
